Whether you’re a novice photographer or an expert, it’s crucial to take care of your camera equipment. Properly cleaning and storing your lenses and camera bodies will ensure they have the longest lifespan possible. Photography enthusiast Jason Grzesik shares his tips on keeping your photography equipment clean and in tip-top shape.

#1. Have Proper Storage

Despite the trendy look of having your camera sit out on open shelving or a bookcase, this is the easiest way for the camera body and lens to collect dust. Not to mention, this is also the easiest way to accidentally bump into your camera and have to fall and potentially break or crack!

Put your camera in a padded bag for optimal storage. If you still have them, the lens covers are the best protection you can have against scratches and dust seeping into the lenses. If you’re an outdoors/adventure photographer, they make backpacks that have padded sections in them for all your camera gear and tech to take with you on your next journey.

#2. Watch The Humidity

Humidity makes it difficult to not only take a nice picture, but could potentially harm the sensors inside the camera body, too. Humidity can add a foggy effect to your photographs, but it’s difficult to control in nature.

When storing your equipment, try to clean your lenses with antiseptic wipes and glass cleaner, and store it at room temperature with low humidity.
